Our Lodge History In 1867, twelve members of Jerseyville Lodge #394 and Hamilton Lodge #567 from Otterville petitioned the Grand Lodge for a letter of dispensation to organize a lodge in Fieldon. The petition was granted on January 7th, 1868, and an organized meeting was held on February 1st, 1868 by it's first master Sylvester Redfield. Five days later, the first stated meting was held on February 6th, 1868 in the village. Fieldon Lodge was granted it's charter on October 6th, 1868. The membership met in various buildings in the village on a rental basis until February 5th, 1938, when they moved from the second floor at 301 West Locust (known as The Farmer's Market) to a property purchased from Viola Park Christon on lots 1 and 12 of block four in the town of Fieldon (200 W. Main). The structure was built by Dr. Wesley Park, (a civil war veteran) and one of the charter members of the lodge. This was a two-story frame building with it's lodge hall located on the second floor. In 1998, the master, Jim (Duke) Schnieder, convinced the brethren to build a new lodge that would better accomodate our aging members. Two lots were purchased on the North side of highway 16 adjacent to the fire house and East of the Farmer's Market at 207 West Locust in the Spring of 1999.We sold our property at 200 west Main in the Spring of 2000 and a 36 x 80 metal building was erected on the site that summer. The lodge is on one level, with a dining room on the West side, two restrooms, an office, a storage area, and lodge hall on the East. |
